What We Do

Brighton Oasis Project is a women only drug service In Brighton. We are here to support women who have a drink or drug problem. We have been established since 1993, successfully helping women and their families address problems with substances that are impacting on their lives. We exist as a women only service because we know that women have problems accessing general (male and female) services, some of this relates to childcare provision but it’s not the only reason. Women have told us that they welcome the opportunity to look at their issues with drug and alcohol in an all women environment, that they feel safer and better understood.

As drug treatment has become more widely available over the last few years we have understood more about what works. Evidence tells us that the way a drug treatment service is organised and managed can have as much if not more impact on client outcomes as the interventions on offer and the characteristics of an agency’s clients. Or to put this another way; if we are well organised and focus on client’s needs there is a higher chance of them being successful in achieving their ambitions. We listen to the women attending our project to make sure we learn from their experiences and they know we value their opinions and feedback.

We provide services for children and young people who have been affected by problem drug or alcohol use in their family. Children and young people who have a close family member with a drug or alcohol problem can struggle to understand what is happening to their loved ones and be affected emotionally. We have therapists who provide one to one support for them in a way that is appropriate for their age, often focused on play and art work. This gives children an outlet outside the family for children to talk about their emotions and fears. The therapy is usually provided weekly over 12 weeks.
